We need Open AI not OpenAI

Looking at how AI changes our world, its impact on jobs, and why we need rules to make sure it's used fairly and openly.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already here, and it’s changing the world as we know it. It’s revolutionizing entire industries and changing the way we live our lives. But let’s not be naive about its destructive effects on our society.

First and foremost, AI is going to replace human jobs on a massive scale. With the rise of automation, many industries are already seeing the effects of job displacement. AI can automate tasks that were once thought to be the exclusive domain of humans, and this trend is likely to continue. Sure, AI has the potential to create new jobs, but let’s be real - the pace of job creation may not be able to keep up with the pace of job displacement.

Good luck finding a job when a robot can do it faster and cheaper than you ever could.

In addition to job displacement, AI will only make existing inequalities even worse. AI algorithms are only as unbiased as the data they are trained on, and the data contains biases. After all, humans are biased creatures. For example, facial recognition software has been shown to be less accurate in identifying people with darker skin tones, which can lead to further discrimination and injustice.

Moreover, the potential for AI to be used for nefarious purposes cannot be ignored. AI can be used to create deepfakes, manipulate public opinion, and perpetuate disinformation. In the wrong hands, AI can be a powerful tool for spreading chaos and destabilizing societies.

And let’s not forget about OpenAI, the company. Sure, their name suggests that they’re all about openness and transparency, but don’t be fooled. They’re just like any other profit-driven corporation, willing to compromise ethics and security for their bottom line. So who’s going to decide who is good and who is bad when it comes to AI? Certainly not companies like OpenAI.

This is why we need heavy regulation. Governments must take the lead in regulating AI and ensuring that it is being used ethically and transparently. This means creating and enforcing laws and regulations that hold companies accountable for their use of AI. It also means ensuring that the public has access to information about how AI is being used and what data is being collected.

We risk creating a world where the powerful use AI to maintain their power and privilege, while the rest of us are left behind. This could be the start of the end of our lives as we know it. Welcome to the brave new world.
