A few hours ago the youtube-dl repository was taken down by Github. The Greedy Recording Industry Associaion of American (RIAA) requested a ‘DMCA takedown’. One of the reasons was that the README contained sample uses of the code downloading copies of copyrighted sound recordings and music videos. So according to them the software can be used for downloading copyrighted material.
Even if the software is being used to download copyrighted material, how the fuck do you have the balls to try to takedown free software that has been downloaded en forked by thousands of people already. This action shows again that its important to self-host your code and your other digital materials.
Like thousands of other people, I already have downloaded the source code, and ill keep enjoying using the software.
